REQUEST FOR COPY OF A MARYLAND MARRIAGE RECORD
A "certified copy" of a marriage record is widely accepted as legal documentation of a marriage. Certified
copies may be needed for purposes of MVA transactions, Social Security, Passports, Health Insurance, etc.
Copies may be obtained in person or by mail. A certified copy can be obtained only from the Clerk of the Circuit
Court for the county where the marriage license was issued.
The fee for certified copies of marriage records from a Clerk of Circuit Court is $5.50 per copy. Plain copies
(not certified) are $.50 per copy. Money orders or cashier checks, payable to "Clerk of Circuit Court" are
accepted in all clerks' offices. Other forms of payment may be accepted in some clerks' offices. Contact the
Clerk of Circuit Court for the county where the marriage license was issued to inquire about other forms of
